1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 MSG
[16-18] Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.
Prayer is not meant to cease. Per my concordance it means not to leave. Our spirits are willing but the flesh is weak. Set yourself to prayer. What does this mean or look like?
I hear a simulation of Dr. Seuss' words this morning:
Pray in the morning, noon & night;
In the shower, commutes or a state of fright;
Pray when it's good & pray when it's not;
Pray in the known & unknown;
No matter what, never cease praying.
Don't leave the setting of prayer.
I do not own the rights to this video.
Set yourself to a life of prayer. I used the word "set" because we have to be intentional. Daily create a discipline of prayer. At some point in your day, carve in a time of praying to the only living God. Whether for a few minutes or an hour or more, be sure to pray. The time may be while feeding the children, in a commute, while cooking, cleaning, exercising or possibly waking up before the house (or going to bed later) to pray. Whatever is needed for vitality in this season, set your time of prayer.
Think of it this way, the heating & air system in your home has different temperature settings depending on the season.
This is similar to how we should approach prayer. During an intense time of resistance or life woes it may take more prayer i.e. turn up the volume or temperature if we're sticking to the theme. Other moments may not be as intense but it should never stop. I'll use a talk I had as an example:
I was told to never turn my heating &/or air unit completely off due to the size of the home, it will take a lot to reheat or cool down causing tremendous work & ware of my system overtime.
Assuming this person is accurate, think about this suggestion in the context of prayer.
DO NOT CUT OFF YOUR SYSTEM!
Don't overexert your system (you). It may cost you now or in the long run. Prayer may look different in variant seasons but always pray.
Create & maintain a consistent modality of prayer. Your system will thank you later 😊.
Today is National Day of Prayer. Take some time to "set" or for some of us, reset your system of prayer.
Pray for others, pray for you, & no matter what - - don't stop praying 🙏🏾.
